PollOBITUARIES GRAY Sarah Ann Gray, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2006 in the company of her loved ones. Sarah Ann Smith was born in Jackson, MS. She spent much of her growing up in Greenville, MS, and at age 20, she married Mr. Edward M. Gray Jr. She became the mother of three children: Edward M. Gray III, Katherine (Kathy) and Robert (Bob). Their family moved to Gulf Breeze in 1963. She remained married to Ed for 49 years until his death in 2000. In 2002, she was diagnosed with cancer; and after undergoing treatments impeded the disease. She enjoyed two happy, healthy years until a reappearance of the illness in early 2005. After a long and trying year, with signs of the disease still present, she decided to end the fight, still retaining her ceaselessly cheerful attitude. Were anyone to choose a phrase or Bible verse to describe her, this verse from Acts 20:35b is the first thing that would come to mind: "And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " Anyone who knew her would agree that this verse sums her up entirely. For that is the way she was; whether it came to volunteering at her church, fixing meals for her family, giving advice, Christmas, Birthdays, or just being there when you needed her. She is a beautiful example for everyone. Sarah is and will be greatly missed not only by her family, but by the entire community. She is survived by her three children Ed, Kathy and Bob; her brother, Victor Smith and his wife, Elizabeth; her daughters in-law, Gail and Donna; and her son-in-law, Ace Cannon. The special prides in her life were her grandchildren, Bob Cannon, McKenna, Kim, Christy, Steven, Meg and Torie Gray. Last, but not least, are her many friends and her much loved pet, Dixie. The family would like to say a special thank you to the physicians that have so faithfully and lovingly tended her: Drs. Allen Patton, Bob Rubey and Bob Pyle. The family would also like to thank Covenant Hospice for their kindness and tenderness with Sarah and the entire family. Additionally, the family would like to express their gratitude for the care given to her by Gulf Breeze Hospital. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Baptist Healthcare at: P.O. Box 17500, Pensacola, 32522 or St. Francis Episcopal Church at 1 St. Francis Dr., Gulf Breeze, 32561. |
