     Lisa Newell/Gulf Breeze News Going, going ... Demolition crews tear down the Holiday Inn Express on Pensacola Beach.Originally built in 1973, the hotel was damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.Crews are currently renovating the Dunes Motel which when reopened at the end of summer will assume the Holiday Inn Express name. Spokesman Shawn Keenan of American Fidelity said another hotel property is planned on the 21-acre plot.

Needed repairs take toll on booth
     Benchmark Construction Corporation, of Jackson, Mississippi has been doing temporary repair work on the Bob Sikes Toll Booth for the past few months. The past two hurricane seasons took a toll on the tollbooth and the building needed extensive repairs.

     Which comes first? In a classic chicken-and-egg debate, the Santa Rosa Island Authority wondered which will come first: additional parking spaces to increase revenue on the beach, or revenue to pay for additional parking. The board is trying to make decisions to prepare for the tourist season, which begins in March. The board considered a proposal to restripe the Quietwater Boardwalk parking lot to add 92 parking spaces. Lack of parking is a recurring problem for Pensacola Beach, causing new business proposals and existing business expansions to be denied due to a limited number of spaces. A conceptual plan shows the orientation of parking spaces turned to north/south, with much of the entrance and planting beds removed.
