Homefront gives kids ‘lunchbox’ hugs

As a therapist for children in crisis, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina breaks my heart but even more so as an American mother. These are my fellow sisters and brothers and my child sees the news of American children crying for help and hurting and turns in tears to ask " WHY?"

Pensacola , Gulf Breeze and this entire NW Gulf Coast community is sheltering evacuees from New Orleans, MS, Alabama at churches, homes and our sports dome...we know how lucky we are to have only minor damage i.e., power outages and phone issues. We are giving back as much as we can and we are frustrated too as a huge military communit: please do not blame the troopswe are the military families too and just today heard troops are being reassigned at special request to go help!!!

If the troops had been ordered to be there on Fridaythey would have been! Some are asking for immediate reassignment to protect and care for their families there and it is being granted !

I invite everyone to join us in bringing a hug to the children: Homefront Lunchbox Hugs for Kids. Anyone who wants to help can go to Homefront Hugs dot com for more info. It is just a drop in the bucket but if it brings a smile to a child for a moment – a child in crisis – a child of God. It will be worth the little effort this took.

This is a family project and one to include our children in so they understand what it means to be American. Already the response has been phenomenal and a true reminder of the strength of the American spiritwe will make it through this togetherfreedom endures. ALESSANDRA
